“My success in medicine thus far is due in large part to excellent mentors who have provided guidance, encouragement and support throughout my journey, and have helped to nurture my interest in women’s cardiovascular health. Mentorship and sponsorship from both men and women are crucial for women in cardiology, who often do not have adequate representation in their desired fields or roles. If we intend to close the gender gaps in patient care, more women are needed in cardiology, and mentorship is an important part of building that representation for future generations.”
Dr. Hassen spent a year as a Chief Resident in Internal Medicine prior to beginning fellowship, and will serve as a Chief Fellow for the 2021-2022 academic year. Throughout her undergraduate and graduate medical training, she has led and served on many committees and councils representing the interests of her peers and patients. Most recently, she was asked to join her institution’s GME Taskforce to Stop Mistreatment, which strives to understand patterns and reduce occurrences of microaggressions and macroaggressions against trainees.
