CME & Objectives

Accreditation
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) through the joint sponsorship of The MetroHealth System and Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology. The MetroHealth System is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The MetroHealth System designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Objectives

  • Apply evidence-based management strategies for the treatment of heart failure.

  • Understand the presentation of cardiac disease varies by gender. Recognize that men and women share most modifiable risk factors, but that gender influences the importance of some well established risk factors.

  • Formulate a sense of where the practice of cardiology is heading with pay for performance initiatives on the horizon.

  • Summarize the incidence, anatomy, and physiology of congenital heart lesions likely to be encountered in the adult patient and identify management strategies for such patients.

  • Discuss pathophysiology of ischemic renal syndromes.

  • Discuss controversial role of renal artery stenting for event prevention.

  • Understand the process of coronary remodeling and how it conceals atherosclerosis.

  • Understand the application of IVUS to assessment of atherosclerosis regression and progression. 

  • Describe new medical approaches to the treatment of atrial fibrillation.

  • Examine current concept of decompensated CHF.

  • Analyze controversy surrounding Nesiritide.
